The AISI 4130 is a steel grade that is known for its unique properties, such as high formability and ductility. This steel alloy are used for producing different types of AISI 4130 fittings like reducers, tees, couplings, caps, etc., which are used for different piping functions due to the difference in their structure, in similar environments. The material is also known for its excellent ductility in annealed condition and it is a hardening alloy. It also consists of elements such as chromium and molybdenum as the strengthening agents, hence the AISI 4130 fittings possess several good properties such as good hardenability, wear resistance, strength and enhanced toughness. It also comes with a low carbon content, which means that the fittings have good weldability. In fact, the ANSI B16.9 Chrome Moly Pipe Cap are known for its exceptional welding properties, and thus they can be welded using all standard commercial shop practices. The AISI 4130 material has high machinability in both normalized and tempered conditions. These are buttweld fittings and hence possess all the advantages of such fittings like leak proof connections, low porosity, can be installed in crunched spaces, etc. Due to all these unique features of the SAE 4130 Alloy Steel Elbow, they are used for applications across several industries, such as fabrication, chemical, nuclear power plant, natural gas, water pipeline, oil and gas, etc.
The SAE 4130 Tee come with a density of 7.85 g/cm3 and they benefit from the heat treatment hardening process. However, the lower grades of the AISI 4130 fittings can be hot worked, cold worked and forged too. But it is essential to remember that these fitting cannot be aged. This material can perform quite well as a type of structural steel, and thus the fittings are used for different types of structural applications which are required in aircraft, construction, or building industries.
AISI 4130 Fittings
What is the difference between AISI 4130 Fittings and AISI 4140 Steel Fittings?
The AISI 4130 material is a low alloy steel that nominally contains 0.3% carbon, 0.2% molybdenum and 1% chromium. The pipe fittings made from this material are widely used in oil patch application. The AISI 4140 material has higher level of carbon, which implies that the 4130 material has higher weldability when compared to the 4140 material, but remember that this property is only achieved through thickness strength. The AISI 4140 fittings have higher impact strength and enhanced fatigue strength along with superb torsional strength. It also possesses more toughness and very good abrasion. The 4140 material also has better corrosion resistance properties when compared to the 4130 material.

There are different types of AISI 4130 pipe fittings, and due to their difference in the structure, they are used for varied purposes. Some of the common AISI 4130 Buttweld fittings and their uses have been listed below:
There are several other fittings as well like olet, union, etc., but the ones listed above are the most common ones. All these AISI 4130 fittings are used for applications across several industries, such as fabrication, chemical, nuclear power plant, natural gas, water pipeline, oil and gas, etc.
The manufacturing process of AISI 4130 Forged Fittings depends on the type of the fittings to a great extent. For example, in order to manufacture an elbow, first the AISI 4130 material is taken, and then it is formed. This is followed by the sizing process, and then heat treatment is done on the same. Sometimes, the heat treatment is avoided too and direct bevealing is done to get the end product, which is AISI 4130 pipe elbow. Similarly, for producing tees, the AISI 4130 pipe material is cut, and then bulge formed instead of normal forming, and then the similar methods are conducted as that of an elbow to manufacture the tee. However, here the heat treatment is necessary before the bevealing process.

The SAE 4130 Alloy material consists of chromium and molybdenum as its strengthening agents, and thus the SAE 4130 Alloy Steel Fittings possess good properties such as increased hardenability, strength and toughness. It also has good wear resistance. The presence of low carbon content in the SAE 4130 Alloy Steel Fittings makes it easily weldable. It also possesses high machinability in both normalized and tempered conditions. It also has good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and offers enhanced tensile strength. It also has enhanced fatigue strength which makes the SAE 4130 Alloy Steel Fittings popular across several industries. The SAE 4130 Alloy Steel material is able to maintain its characteristics even when exposed to a temperature as high as 315.5 degrees C.
