The ASTM A105 Forged Fittings is made up of an alloy that has different types of materials, like manganese, silicon, carbon, phosphorus, nickel, copper, silicon, chromium, vanadium, and molybdenum. Due to the chemical combination of these forged fittings, it possesses properties like corrosion resistance and high strength. It also comes with a high wear and tear, and a hardness of 187 HBW. The ASTM A105 Forged Fittings are intended to be used in industrial applications with heavy usage. The forged steel helps in making the fitting stronger, which enables them to be used in environments like pressure systems that involve high temperature applications. The ASTM A105 Forged Fittings can be used in pipes that transfer any of the three types of materials- solid, liquid, and gas. They come in various sizes and are made according to the dimensions of the pipe to be fitted properly. They are used for a wide range of services which includes combining, diverting or reducing the flow. The function basically depends on the type of the fittings put to use.
Common types of ASTM A105 Forged Fittings would include:
Thus, each type of fitting comes with different applications and they are used in various industries according to specific requirements.
A105 Steel Socket Weld Tee Vs ASME SA 105 Threaded Tee
The ASME A105 standard basically covers the forget fittings made of the seamless carbon steel. These fittings are great for high-pressure environments having high or ambient temperatures. The A105 Steel Socket Weld Tee and the ASME SA 105 Threaded Tee are of the same standards and hence are used in similar environments. They also perform the same task which is connecting different pipes to the main pipeline. It comes with two parallel side ends that run perpendicularly from the middle section of the fittings. However, the only difference between them is in their welding method. The A105 Steel Socket Weld Tee are connected to the pipes through fillet welds whereas the ASME SA 105 Threaded Tee are basically screwed into the pipe. The socket weld tees are also high in strength and they offer more durable connection compared to the threaded connections. They are more reliable than the threaded ones. However, it is to be noted that threaded tees take less time to install when compared to the welded ones.

ASTM A105 Material Properties
The ASTM A105 is a standard material of seamless carbon steel and it is a specification for the forged fittings. They are mostly used for high pressure services in high or ambient temperature settings. Carbon steel is an alloy of different materials and hence they have varied properties. The mechanical properties of the material is listed below:
Tensile strength (psi) min |

CS ASTM A105 Socket Weld Elbow Vs ASTM A105 Steel Threaded Elbow
The ASME A105 standard basically covers the forget fittings made of the seamless carbon steel. These fittings are great for high-pressure environments having high or ambient temperatures. The CS ASTM A105 Socket Weld Elbow and the ASTM A105 Steel Threaded Elbow are of the same standards and hence are used in similar environments. They also perform the same task which is changing the flow direction or angle of the pipe run. Generally, they are available in two types of turns and they are 45 degrees and 90 degrees. However, the only difference between them is in their welding method. The SA 105 Elbow is connected to the pipes through fillet welds whereas the ASTM A105 Steel Threaded Elbow is basically screwed into the pipe. The socket weld fittings are also high in strength and they last longer for the connection process compared to the threaded connections. The socket welds are also more reliable than the threaded ones, and hence these are preferred by more industrials that involve serious applications. The threaded fittings are more commonly used in domestic pipelines and casual industrial usages, like the cooling water line of an office. However, it is to be noted that threaded tees take less time to install when compared to the welded ones.
A105 Forged Fittings Vs A105n Forged Fittings
The A105 Forged Fittings and the A105n Forged Fittings are not entirely the same. They might have the same raw materials and steel grades, but their requirement for heat treatment is quite different. The N in A105N stands for the normalization heat treatment, whereas no heat treatment is required for the A105 fittings. In other words, it can be said that the A105N is a type of A105 fittings. The A105N comes with better mechanical properties compared to the A105 fittings, they have higher strength and offer better performance in services that involve low temperatures. They both have similar chemical composition, but as the A105N material offers better mechanical properties hence it is used for more critical situations.
