What is Super Duplex Flanges?
The super duplex stainless steel material has a hybrid austenitic-ferritic microstructure in a 50/560 ratio. This chemical composition of the super duplex flanges is one of the main reasons behind their increased tensile strength over other austenitic and ferritic grades of stainless steel. It comes with a much higher content of both molybdenum and chromium in its alloy, and because of this, they have got greater corrosion resistance properties. There are different types of super duplex flanges available in different faces and each of them perform different functions according to their structures. Some benefits of getting super duplex flanges are:
The unique features of the super duplex flanges make them eligible to be used in a wide range of industries like petrochemical, chemical, pulp and paper, off-shore drilling, marine, heat exchangers, etc.
Super Duplex 2507 Slip On Flanges Vs A182 F53 Super Duplex Weld neck Flanges
2507 is a grade for super duplex austenitic stainless steel which has high strength and possesses exceptional corrosion resisting properties. The Super Duplex 2507 Slip On Flanges are used in industries such as petrochemical, chemical processing and marine, as they demonstrate excellent resistance to different types of corrosion. These slip on flanges should be slipped into the pipe, before they are double welded from inside and outside, to get a leak-proof connection.
The A182 F53 Super Duplex material creates Weld neck Flanges that are high in strength with a min yield strength of 550 MPa, and min tensile strength of 800 MPa. These flanges give great performance in high temperature and/or high pressure environments. They also perform really well when there is a fluctuation in temperature or pressure, or the pipeline is carrying volatile or hazardous liquid. This is why the A182 F53 Super Duplex Weld neck Flanges is preferred by industries like chemical processing, petrochemical, etc., which works in such severe or critical conditions.
ASTM A182 UNS S32750 Blind Flange Vs Duplex Uns S32760 Threaded Flange
The ASTM A182 UNS S32750 is a material specification for super duplex stainless steel that comes with high strength and is resistant to corrosion in several environments. There are some considerable differences between the structure, functions and working situations of the ASTM A182 UNS S32750 Blind Flange and the Duplex Uns S32760 Threaded Flange.
The ASTM A182 UNS S32750 Blind Flange looks like a solid steel plate with bored holes surrounding it and no no central hole in the middle. They are bolted to join with the pipe and are primarily used for stopping the pipe connection or seal the nozzle of the valve. They are mainly used in those areas where the piping application is not under use or those that need frequent inspection or maintenance.
The Duplex Uns S32760 Threaded Flange has a female NPT thread in the center and it is connected to the male NPT threaded piping. These are helpful for creating reducing connections. These are helpful for applications that require frequent connecting and disconnecting of the given piping system from time to time.
Is super Super Duplex 2507 Flanges austenitic?
The Super Duplex 2507 is a grade of austenitic stainless steel that consists of elements such as chromium, nickel and molybdenum in its alloy. Due to the chemical composition of the super duplex material, they have higher strength and better corrosion resisting properties compared to other grades of austenitic stainless steel.

Our non-destructive examination methods can be used on flanges made of stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, bronze, plastic, and other materials. We assist in the detection and prevention of flange leakage, which is frequently caused by
Selecting high-quality billet blanking, heating, shaping, and forging cooling are the phases that make up the forging process. There are three types of forging: free forging, die forging, and film forging. Different forging processes are chosen during production based on the quality of the forgings and the number of production batches.
Below are the types of forging:
Free forging
Die forging
The microstructure of super duplex stainless steel has a mix of austenitic and ferritic grains. Ferritic microstructures are magnetic, whereas austenitic microstructures are not. As a result, super duplex grades are also magnetic.

Both pressure class in bars of pressure and metric flange parameters are specified in PN10 and PN16 Super Duplex Flanges according to international flange standards such as ISO 7005-1 or DIN 2501 that use the metric system of measurements. It is excellent practice to provide the actual working pressure when establishing a PN flange standard, because it is usual for a specified PN, such as PN16, flange drilling to be required on a fitting or valve to match nearby flanges, but the pressure requirement is less than PN16.
Surface Types | Maximum Roughness Value |
Ring-type joint flanges (and hard gaskets) | 63 µin AARH (1.6 µm AARH) |
Tongue and Groove, and small Male and Female | 125 µ.in. or 3.2 µ.m AARH |
A Super Duplex raised face flanges differs from a Alloy 2507 flat face flanges in that the raised face has a raised portion that surrounds the pipe bore, whereas the ASME B16.5 SDSS flat face flanges does not. These are two of the most frequent flange face configurations. The ring type and the full-face gasket are the two types of gaskets that can be used to seal Super Duplex Steel FF Flanges. The gasket used with the FF flange makes full contact with the whole surface where two flanges are bonded, but the gasket used with the Raised Face flanges does not. A soft, flat, or semi-metallic gasket is compressed between matching flanges in the raised portion of the flanges to seal 2507 Alloy raised face flanges.
Concentric circular grooves or a continuous spiral groove (also known as 'phonographic') carved into the flange sealing surface make up Alloy 2507 serrated flange surfaces. Non-metallic (soft) and semi-metallic gaskets are used on 2507 Super duplex serrated flange surfaces.
The two serration kinds are depicted in the illustration below. The spiral serration in the image is exaggerated since the close proximity of the serrations makes it difficult to perceive the spiral shape on a real flange.
For spiral serrated and concentric serrated flange surfaces, the ASME B16.5 standard defines serrations of 1/64 inch (0.4 mm) deep with 32 serrations per inch (12.5 serrations per cm).
