What is Gun Metal Flanges?
The gunmetal material is an alloy made up of copper, tin, and zinc. It also has other elements like nickel and lead in its composition. Gun Metal Slip on Flange Vs Gun Metal Threaded Flanges
The Gun Metal Slip on Flange comes with a hole that matches the outer diameter of the pipe. This is essential for the pipe to pass smoothly through it. Once the flange is placed into the pipe, double welding is done on the inside and the outside to ensure enhanced strength and leakage proof connections. They are mostly used for applications that involve low temperature, low pressure and there should also be less risk of leakage.
The Gun Metal Threaded Flanges are also known as screwed flanges. They have a thread inside the bore of the flange that fits into the pipe via the matching male thread that is on the pipe. The threaded flanges come with simple and speedy installations, and as there is no welding involved, the cost of the installation is also lower compared to the slip on flanges. These flanges are mostly used for utility services like air, water, etc.
Gun Metal RTJ Flange Vs Gun Metal Lap Joint Flanges
Gun Metal RTJ Flange also known as ring type joint flange are basically machined metallic rings that come with deep cuts and grooves into its face. The grooves are placed over a metallic ring that gets compressed when the connecting bolts are tightened. This method helps to establish a leak-proof connection and hence they can be easily used in several high-pressure applications.
The Gun Metal Lap Joint Flanges basically comes with two components, which are a loose backing flange and a stub end. The stub end is butt welded to join with the pipe, and the backing flange can easily move over the pipe. They are mostly used for those connections where the piping needs frequent dismantling. They are also used in applications where space is a constraint. The backing flange can be of a different material like carbon steel. It helps in saving the overall cost.
