What Is Barred Tee?
Barred Tee can be described as a special type of tee that basically bases from a normal tee. A Barred Tee can either be an equal or reducing tee, and at a later stage bar plates bar plates are added on the inner side of the branch outlet. When looked from inside, it appears to be a steel cage. Depending on the parent material, the bar is also made up of similar material.
The bars are basically placed on the inner side of the tee, and its dimension should be accurate enough to do the job without restricting the flow of the tee. They should also be able to prevent the breakage depending on the flow rate of the tee’s branched connection.
Like other tee fittings, the Barred Tee too has one inlet located at 90 degrees and connected to the main line. It has tiny holes. They are either fabricated or extruded and help in connecting different pieces of pipes and fittings together. They are used in pigged pipelines.
What Is Stainless Steel Barred Tee Used For?
The Stainless Steel Barred Tee helps to restrict the flow of pig from the header to the branch pipe. The bars in the barred tee are basically installed so that they can flush with the pipeline’s inner diameter and prevent the pig from hanging up, while it passes through.
Difference Between Flow And Barred Tee
The flow tee allows the fluid to flow in from the main pipe through the inlet and then branch out. These branches can be of equal size or smaller size than the main pipe. The barred tee has its base from a normal tee. Bar plates are added in these tees at a later stage in the inner side of the branch outlet. It basically restricts the pig from flowing from the header pipe to the branch pipe.
What Is Barred Tee Fitting Design Standard
The barred tee does not have any international standard. It takes the base from normal tee, and hence is custom made using the normal tee standard, which is ASME B16.9 or MSS-SP 75. However, some barred tees were developed based on the standards Shell DEP 31.40.10.13-Gen or ISO 15590-2.
Barred Tees Manufacturing Process
The Barred Tees Manufacturing Process involves the standard manufacturing procedure of a normal tee, and then a bar plate is welded on the inner side of the fitting.

Barred tees, like butt weld tees, are made to particular customer project specifications in a wide range of sizes. Welded to the branch of the butt weld tees are custom-fitted bar sections. The bars are there to ensure that the pig passes through the branch aperture. The bar gap is intended to protect the pig's functional elements.
If there are too many welded bars, the medium flow may be reduced. If it is too small, it may not function when the pig passes. The barred tees has no international standard dimension. It is manufactured to order utilising the ASME B16.9/ MSS-SP 75 tee as a foundation. Equally spaced bars for sizes 4′′ to 6′′ are 1 bar, 8′′ to 10′′ are 2 bars, 12′′ to 20′′ are 3pcs, and 24′′ to 48′′ are 5 bars. In addition, the thickness of 4′′ to 18′′ bars is 1/2′′(12.7mm), and 20′′ to 48′′ bars are 1/2′′(12.7mm).
